Contact Lenses

Contact lenses are a form of corrective eyewear that are suitable for those who don’t want to wear glasses. If you need vision correction for nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism, contact lenses can help. There are several different types of contact lenses, including dailies, extended wear, multifocal, rigid gas-permeable, and more. Our eye doctor will determine what lenses are best for you.

Eye Exam vs Contact Lens Exam

If you want to wear contacts, our optometrist will perform a contact lens exam. This is different from a traditional eye exam. Eye and vision exams look at your eye health, eye functioning, and visual acuity. A contact lens exam evaluates what level of vision correction you need by measuring how well your eyes focus with different lenses. Our eye doctor will also determine if contacts are right for you, and if you need specialty lenses.

Contact Lens Exam

Visual Acuity Test

The first portion of your exam is a visual acuity test. Our eye doctor uses a phoropter to assess your vision. We will adjust the machine so it aligns with your eyes. You'll have to look through the lenses and read the letters as we change the focusing power.

Astigmatism Evaluation

Next, our eye doctor will assess your eyes for astigmatism, which is a refractive error. It occurs when your eye is abnormally shaped and is not shaped like a sphere. For this test, our optometrist will ask you to look at a series of pairs of images. You have to inform our practitioner which image looks clearer.

Eye Health Exam

Our eye doctor will ensure that your eyes are healthy enough to wear contacts. We will test for things like glaucoma, dry eye, keratoconus, and more.

Contact Lens Fitting

For a contact lens fitting, our optometrist will ask you to look into a machine, which will take the dimensions of your eyes. Our eye doctor uses this information to determine the size of contacts you need, so they fit comfortably in your eye, don't shift, and are in the proper position to optimize your eyesight.
